Thanks Leon. Very interesting indeed. I'm no longer working at the National College - so this About page needs an edit!. I'm at Derby University working on the development of a new business unit to be the vehicle for the development and delivery of the University's online programmes. My team will employ a number of senior online tutors - to develop online programmes - and online tutors - to deliver them. I think there's a lot our new staff could learn from and with the organic TeachMeet community.

Great post, Stuart! There's so much truth and sense in your notes from the events. This is a great, concise encapsulation of what we try to tell folk we work with.

<blockquote>"Don’t try to compete with, or replace, existing networks and communities. Try to collaborate and connect with them. You also need to meet your members, your audience, where they are rather than assume they should exclusively come to you."</blockquote>

This, I think, is a huge challenge - especially when considering the more closed, membership communities we work with. How can we open up dialogue with other communities and still retain the confidentiality and integrity of our own?

Thanks for sharing.

Hi Kevin, Thanks for the kind words, the insights and sugeestions.

I'm planning on re-reading Kathy's readers research very soon actually. And ideally I'd like to blog a summary here too, if I can.

I like your suggestion about a piece on Agile Community Management. I think that several of the lessons I've tried to articulate so far would fit under that heading. I'll think on it ....

Hi Stuart - like the post. The readers bit is so important. Did you ever see Kathy Seddon's reserach into readers? Supports exactly what you are saying here.

Agree also with your analytics point - it's not enough to receive and look at analytics reports once a month!

Perhaps there might be mileage in working up the idea of 'Agile Community Management'. I bet there would be a lot of interested folk out there who would like to read a white paper on that...I can think of a few off the top of my head!
